You are not alone

you are not aloneWith a rise in today’s mechanical lifestyle, there are a lot of changes that we attribute to Modernism. Spending a lot of time on social sites posting status messages, expecting conversations and partying or chatting with the “not-so-close” circle of friends has become a part of everyday life. Taking a closer look into all these, one thing that strikes my mind is “everyone needs someone”, rightly phrased that Man is a social animal. But it has become difficult to find someone always to share our heart’s content with. Eventually the feeling of loneliness creeps into our hearts even when amidst a large crowd of people moving around. Being alone, isolated from the rest can be a choice, but feeling alone is a miserable experience that we can encounter even if we find no reason to feel so. It is a feeling that arises from discovering there is a vacuum within our hearts.

There was once an old lady in a home for the aged. She was a very cheerful person filled with liveliness. She had the talent of involving her fellow inmates into lively conversations and thus making them happy. Her very presence made the other old people cheerful and they enjoyed her company. She had the habit of writing in her personal diary every night. Everyone was curious to read what she wrote down but she did not allow anyone to take a look at it. One fine day, this old woman breathed her last. After her death, people who opened her personal diary were shocked to see, “No one came to see me even today” in all the pages of her diary. Though the old woman could give cheerfulness to others around, deep within, she had felt alone all through her life. Most people feel lonely despite having friends, relatives and an active life with no time to rest. Feeling lonely has nothing to do with the number and quality of your relationships or the amount of work you do. Regardless of age, environment and circumstances, all of us are forced to feel lonely at some point or the other in life. Some of us experience this miserable feeling all through our lives despite trying out various ways to get rid of it, like the aforesaid social sites and so on.

These are the times to remember that GOD is always available to help you overcome loneliness. In fact it is only God who can take control of your life. People often say that there is a God-shaped vacuum within our hearts and no one can fill it besides God Himself. How can we say that God alone can fill the vacuum in our lives? If we argue on the point that we can take God to be our friend and thus overcome the feeling of loneliness, why can’t it be done by our other friends? The answer is simple: It is only God who can be with you at all times, practically every single second. He understands you and knows your every pain. Even before you express yourself to Him, He knows what you need. He is a friend who sticks closer to you than a brother (Proverbs 18:42). He has promised never to leave you alone. No other friend can have a greater love than He has (John 15:13-15). He has assured us of His presence till the very end of age (Matthew 28:20). Even when your father and mother may give you up, He is there to take care of you (Psalm 27:10). And the best part is; nothing can separate you from His love. Be it tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, death, life, things of the present or those which are yet to come-nothing can separate you from the love of God (Romans 8:35-39). We are never totally alone because God has said, “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).

So my dear friend, it is not just you who is taken over by this feeling of loneliness but many others too. And God has provided us the solution to get over this miserable feeling. Allow Jesus to fill the vacuum in your heart and experience His divine companionship. And when you are again overcome by loneliness, you can know this feeling to be false. You are not alone, nor will you ever be alone. That is God`s promise to you.
